We have been making red stars with our Buddy class Room 1 for the Matariki Parade.
We are a class of children in our Second Year at Arahoe School. We love sharing our learning on our class blog. Please take a look around our blog, play some fun games, feed the fish and leave us a positive comment. We look forward to hearing from you!

Room 14 has been learning about Matariki
Matariki is both the name of the Pleiades star cluster and also of the season of its first rising in late May or early June—taken as the beginning of the new year.
Today we learnt a Matariki Waiata and about the different phases of the moon.

Adjectives
Today I introduced Adjectives to Room 14. We watched a you tube clip on what Adjectives are, then we cut out pictures from a magazine and described the pictures.
Jude's lost jumper
Hi Parents/Caregivers,
Jude's school jumper is missing from Room 14. It has his name inside the label. Can you please check your child's jumper at home that it hasn't be accidentally mixed up.
Thanks :)

Arbour Day fun!
Despite the weather we soldiered on today and planted over 50 trees along our school bank for Arbour Day. We had Dai Henwood and Urzila Carlson from 7 days come and help us and kick off Arbour Day. Room 14 planted a Pohutukawa Tree. A big thank you to Phil and Emma Oster for donating 40 native trees we were so lucky to have their support and help today!!

Poppy Artwork
Dear parents & whanau,
As you may be aware, August 2014 marks 100 years since
World War 1 was declared. As a school we
are coming together to create a thought-provoking piece of outdoor art to
commemorate this event, specifically remembering the sacrifice of the 91
servicemen who left from the New Lynn area.
Through our project your child will learn, not only about art
techniques, but also some facts about the Great War, the meaning of the red
poppy and other symbols of war.
To make this project meaningful and relevant to our
students we would like to compile a list of your family members that served
during World War 1 and possibly include their names in our art project
too. Please upload the name, photo and
any details of your family member to the Padlet Wall
http://padlet.com/kirstenb/room21wewillremember (When uploading your information please also
include your child’s name and class.)
The unveiling of our artwork will be in early Term
3. It will be a time to commemorate the
significance of World War 1 with our school community and the community at
large. You will receive more information about our commemorative event towards
the end of the term. If you have any
questions or suggestions you may email me at kirstenb@arahoe.school.nz
Here are some photos of Room 14 beginning the process of painting the poppies :)

Worm Farm challenge
Hello parents,
This term our theme has been all about worms – all the room
14 children have loved this topic and are fully engaged into the two school
worm farms we have. The next step is to incorporate all the children's
knowledge and passionate about worm farming into their very own home. So we
have a challenge ( easy!) for each family to make their very own worm farm
using icecream containers, milk bottles or get creative and design and build
your own farm. I have attached the link on how to make a worm farm using two
plastic ice cream containers or an old bath. Please send photos in of your
journey making the worm farm so they can feature on the class and school blog.
The reason behind making a worm farm is to transition your child's knowledge
into the home environment. Get creative and we look forward to seeing how your
worm farm journey goes!
Any questions please ask :)
Arbour Day- plan for Thursday
Hello parents,
As you will be aware Arahoes Arbour Day – Dig Deep or Donate is
happening this THURSDAY at 9am. The event is taking place on the school field
and will be approximately 30-45 minutes. All the classes are fortunate enough
to be able to plant a native tree into the school field on Thursday morning. The
event will go ahead if there is rain so please make sure your child is wearing
weather appropriate clothing.
· gumboots
· clothes shoes
· raincoat
· warm jumper
· pack spare clothes
After the Arbour Day the PSG have organized delicious home baking
and hot chocolates to be sold outside room 5 for $2. All the money raised will
go towards the re-vamp of the school gardens.
Thanks :)
