We have been learning about what 2D and 3D shapes. What they look like, their properties- how many sides and corners they have. We have done a cut and paste activity about them. Today we did several activities on the Mimio. The children were fantastic at sorting and matching the 2D and 3D shapes into the correct category.
We are a class of children in our Second Year at Arahoe School. We love sharing our learning on our class blog. Please take a look around our blog, play some fun games, feed the fish and leave us a positive comment. We look forward to hearing from you!

Entering school
As part of our Health topic this term 'Safe From Harm' we have been learning about the 3 different entry and exits to Arahoe School. Some of Room 14 come through Grandison Crescent others by Arahoe Road and also Pimento Place. We visited each access and we had to write why we thought our entry was the safest. Here's what some of us wrote.
"I come into school at Grandison Cresent, I think it's the safest way because the cars are parked in the car park" -Nathan
"I come into school through Grandison Crescent, I think it's the safest way because there are fences."- Bridget
"I come to school through Arahoe Road. I think Arahoe Road is the safest way because there are patrols to help us cross the road." -Warner
"I come into school through Pimento Place. I think Pimento Place is the safest way to come to school because it's quiet and a policeman lives on the street." - Sweta

WAL (We are learning)- about prepositions
Today we learnt about Prepositions as part of our Math and Te Reo unit.
We went up to the top playground and practiced- on top, under, in front, behind, inside and outside. The children had to tell what preposition they were showing me for the photo. We started off with the English words but we will also learn the Maori words.

Newsletter for Term 2
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I hope you had a fantastic holiday and are just as
excited as I am to start Term 3.
Our main topic this term is Health. We will be learning
about road safety, keeping ourselves safe and the impact we have on our
environment. In Mathematics we will be continuing to develop addition and
subtraction strategies, and some groups will also be looking at multiplication
and division. In our strand Maths we will learn about Geometry and Measurement.
It was really pleasing to see so many students moving up at least a
level if not higher in their reading last term. This term I will continue to
work on strategies for unknown words and comprehension with the children.
I have glued in a notice in your child’s notebook updating you of your child’s
progress in their reading, spelling (from the essential list) and basic facts
from the testing I did at the end of term.
Room 14 are in need of a few items and it would be great if we could re-use what you already have at home. Could you keep an eye out for, or collect over the term the following please:
Room 14 are in need of a few items and it would be great if we could re-use what you already have at home. Could you keep an eye out for, or collect over the term the following please:
·
Plastic containers- yoghurt or butter (great for
art putting paint into… etc)
·
Newspapers and magazines- for art, and cutting out
pictures for collages
·
Any scrap paper- can have things printed on one
side
We also need some more Art T-Shirts. I have a couple but am in need of more, so if you have any old shirts you no longer wear and would like to donate them to the budding artists in Room 14, that would be much appreciated! :)
Finally, there are a few occasions this term where I require parent help in the classroom for various activities, please email me if you are available to do so.
If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate
to contact me.
Thanks!
Samantha Scarlett
