Room 14's litter free lunchboxes
We have been adding up all week who has had a litter free lunchbox and who is using resealable bags for their lunch. Thank you parents and caregivers for your help and support with this. Our highest number is 12/25 which is nearly half of our class but it would be great if we could get 25/25 lunchboxes litter free!!

Topic: We are who we are
We have started our topic wall. We had to colour and decorate ourselves. Miss Mead also took photos of us and we had to draw the other side of our faces.
Our topic wall is very bright and colourful- make sure you come into Room 14 and check it out :)
Needs vs Wants
Today we have been learning about the difference between a need and a want. We sorted pictures into the correct headings. Miss Mead made a fun activity for us on the Mimio.
Newsletter for Term 4
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I hope you had a great holiday. I can't believe it is Term 4 already;
Christmas will be here before we know it!
We are excited to have Miss Mead back with us, and I can't
wait to hear where she took Mr Moose in the holidays.
This term our topic is: We
are who we are. It is all about us, our family, belonging to a community,
cultures, diversity and belonging to different groups. Room 14 will be putting
together a flipchart on the Mimio as we explore each area and document who we
are and where we come from. We have completed our topic wall to celebrate who
we are – please feel free pop in and check it out.
We will be having swimming this term, but not for a couple of
weeks. The pool has been fixed and it's now in the process of being cleaned and
re-filled. When the timetable comes out I will let parents know what day and
time our swimming session is.
In Visual Arts this term we will be exploring and making different
types of puppets. Room 14 will be making puppets to represent who is in our
family. We will be collecting different materials. Please have a look at the
separate list your child will bring home of the items we are collecting. If you
could please send in the items with your child that would be much appreciated.
In Maths this term we are continuing to work on number strategies
in addition and subtraction. We are also learning about statistics; how to
collect data and display it on a tally chart, display the data on a graph and
then write statements from the information collected. Last week, we looked at
our favourite colours and animals.
If you have any questions or queries
please don't hesitate to ask and remember to check the blog for regular updates:

Bringing sweets and treats to school...
Hi Parents/Caregivers,
Arahoe teachers had a meeting last week and we have been informed that children will no longer be able to bring sweets and treats to school for their birthdays etc...
Mr Limbrick will be formalising a letter that will be getting sent out, but I know we have a few birthdays in Room 14 coming up, and a few of the children had mentioned bringing in a birthday cake.
Thanks Miss Scarlett
Miss Scarlett's Bali Adventue
In the school holidays Miss Scarlett went to Bali for 2 weeks. Here are a few pictures to show Miss Scarlett's Adventures...

I woke up at 2am to climb My Batur to watch the sunrise in Ubud Bali. It took me 2 hours to reach the top and 1 hour and a half to climb down. It was a hard climb but I made the top! |

I also went snorkeling in the Gili Islands. There were beautiful fish with bright colours. |

We also saw a turtle!! |

In Ubud we went to the monkey forest. The monkey's were very friendly and liked to climb over tourists - but some naughty monkey's tried to steal people's water bottles and bags. |

Bottles needed for Room 14's stall at Spring Fair
Hi All,
Room 14 still needs many bottles of either food or drink to be donated for our bottle bank by the 1st of November. Any perfume, cooking sauces, wine, oils or bubble bath you can donate would be fantastic and much appreciated!! I'm adding bottles into my weekly shopping to make it cost effective. Would be great if every family could bring in a couple of bottles if you can.
Many Thanks!!
MISS MEAD AND MR MOOSE’S SUPER-DUPER FUN HOLIDAYS!
Miss mead and mr moose’s super-duper fun holidays!
By Miss Mead
In the school holidays, Miss Mead and Mr
Moose had lots of fun together!
Mr Moose had a bubble bath and then he felt
squeaky clean!
Mr Moose also was really lucky and had some delicious,
cheesy pizza but he also ate all of
his vegetables! Miss Mead thought it would be a good idea to
take Mr Moose on a few journeys! First off they went to the Auckland Zoo!
Mr Moose’s favourite animals were the giraffes! He really loved their long, stretchy necks and the interesting pattern all over their bodies!
Mr Moose learnt that giraffes have blue tongues! How strange!
In the new New Zealand area of the Zoo, we saw lots of animals that are native to New Zealand.
Can you see an animal hiding in this photo? He is camera shy!
Keas are birds that can be a bit naughty sometimes, they have been seen nibbling car aerials!
The orangutans were Miss Mead’s favourite animal! They were
covered in really long orange hair!
They were sitting in their enclosure being lazy and sunbathing,
it was really funny!
They didn't like photos though!
Here is Mr Moose sitting outside one of the hobbits’ houses!
They had a tour guide and she said that lots of children
hobbits lived in this hobbit hole!
They did not see any hobbits because they are very, very shy!
Mr Moose and Miss Mead had a really great holiday together!
It was fantastic to spend time with Mr Moose and we are both
excited to start Term 4!
Miss
Mead hopes that Room 14 has an awesome term with lots of fun and learning!
Litter free lunch boxes competition
Arahoe
School cares for the environment. We want to reduce the amount
of rubbish
we send to the landfill.
You can
help us…
BE LITTER
FREE!
Make your
lunch-box free of gladwrap and
plastic
wrappers as these are non-recyclable.
Instead, put food such as yoghurt, chips
and
biscuits into reusable containers.
Arahoe
Primary School is becoming Waste Wise. Part of becoming waste wise is learning
how to eliminate our lunch rubbish each day. For four weeks there is a whole
school litter free lunchbox competition. Each student in every class needs to
try and bring their lunch to school using more sustainable ways and eliminate
the use of lunch wrapping such as gladwrap. Each day the class counts how many
students lunchboxes are litter free and records it on the calendar, the
results can also be graphed on a wall display. The class with the MOST litter
free lunches over a four week period wins.
The prize up for grabs is a litter free
picnic at the mystery location for the whole class and also getting to choose
and plant the centerpiece tree for the school vegetable garden.
